Temple History
Shri Sant Matsyendra Nath Ji Kshetra in Ujjain houses the samadhi of Sant Matsyendra Nath, the legendary yogi and one of the founders of the Nath tradition. Matsyendra Nath is celebrated for his deep spiritual insight, mastery of Hatha Yoga, and guidance to countless disciples on the path of self-realization and liberation.
The samadhi is believed to be the very spot where Matsyendra Nath attained final liberation (Moksha) after years of meditation and yogic practice. Devotees consider it a powerful center of spiritual energy, where the saint’s blessings continue to guide aspirants in meditation, yoga, and devotion.
Historically, the samadhi became a focal point for followers of the Nath Sampradaya, attracting sages, pilgrims, and seekers of wisdom. Over time, a temple complex was established around the samadhi, preserving the legacy of Matsyendra Nath and serving as a hub for spiritual learning, meditation, and religious gatherings in Ujjain.
Visiting the samadhi is believed to grant spiritual insight, peace of mind, and inspiration for disciplined, devoted living, continuing the saint’s teachings centuries after his departure.
