Submit DetailsAccording to the scriptures, after killing Hiranyakashipu, Shri Narasimha took a bath in the Shipra river in Ujjain to pacify his anger. His rage did not subside and became uncontrolled. Shiva took the form of Sharabha and tried to stop Narasimha. But, Vishnu and Shiva continued to fight for a long time without any solution. Thereafter, on request of all Gods, Maa Durga took the form of Maa Pratyangira and stopped both of them with her fierce form and roar due to which the violent war between them ended and the threat of destruction of the Universe was averted. It is believed that since then, Maa Pratyangira resided in Ujjain forever and has been destroying evil powers and enemies to protect her Devotees.
