Shree Dharmraj Chitragupt Mandir, located near Ramghat in Ujjain, is one of the city’s most ancient and spiritually significant temples. Dedicated to Lord Chitragupt, the divine accountant of human deeds, the temple symbolizes justice and moral order. It is believed that Lord Chitragupt maintains the record of every individual’s karma and presents it to Dharmraj after death. The temple also houses idols of Dharmraj and other divine attendants, emphasizing the importance of righteousness and truth in life. A special feature of the temple is the sacred “84 Mahadev Shila,” which represents all 84 forms of Lord Shiva and is considered equivalent to visiting all Mahadev temples of Ujjain. Devotees visit this temple especially during Yama Dwitiya and Chitragupt Jayanti to seek forgiveness for their sins.
